Giovanni Abath finishes fifth in 200-meter semifinal at South American Youth Games

PANAMA (DA) — Curaçao’s Giovanni Abath finished fifth on Friday in semifinal series 2 of the boys’ 200 meters at the IV South American Youth Games Panama 2026, posting a time of 23.36 and missing out on the next round.

Abath recorded the fastest reaction time in the field at 0.144, but it was not enough to move into a qualifying position.

Guyana’s Deuquan Farrell won the semifinal in 21.89, followed by fellow Guyanese sprinter Gordon Thompson in 22.16 and Brazil’s Pedro Nunes de Araujo in 22.24, with all three advancing.

Bolivia’s Fabricio Rivera Aldana was fourth in 23.19. Abath followed in fifth, while Panama’s Franklin Rodríguez Chavez finished sixth in 23.63.

The semifinal was scheduled for Friday at 10:40 a.m. at Ciudad Deportiva Irving Saladino – Estadio Rommel Fernández as part of the athletics program of the IV South American Youth Games Panama 2026.
