RIO DE JANEIRO (DA) — Curaçaoan doubles player Jean-Julien Rojer and Ecuador’s Gonzalo Escobar were eliminated in the Rio Open round of 16 after a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Argentina’s Máximo González and Andrés Molteni in Brazil.
Rojer and Escobar opened the ATP 500 tournament with a straight-sets win over Nicolás Barrientos and Thiago Agustín Tirante, taking both sets 6-4.
They then secured their place in the last 16 by rallying past a Brazilian team that included Gustavo Heide. After losing the first set 4-6, Rojer and Escobar answered with a 7-5 second set and dominated the supertiebreak 10-1.
