Angely Curiel finishes fourth, Bradley Bonevacia sixth for Curaçao at CARIFTA

ST. GEORGE (DA) — Angely Curiel placed fourth in the girls U20 javelin final and Bradley Bonevacia finished sixth in the boys U17 javelin final as Curaçao’s athletics team opened competition Saturday on Day 1 of the CARIFTA Games 2026 at Kirani James Athletic Stadium in Grenada.

Curiel, 18, produced a best throw of 42.04 meters in the girls U20 final. After fouling on her first two attempts, she found her rhythm with her top mark on the third throw and closed with 37.91 on her fourth.

The Bahamas’ Taysha Stubbs won the event with 48.84 meters. Jamaica’s Zoelle Jamel took second with 47.19, while the Bahamas’ Kamera Strachan finished third with 44.88.

Bonevacia, 16, reached 50.62 meters to place sixth in the boys U17 final. His best mark came on his opening attempt, followed by throws of 46.64, 48.10, 44.76 and 46.74 before a foul on his sixth and final try.

Grenada’s Deshawn Smart won that event with 65.09 meters, ahead of the Bahamas’ Ahkeel Williams at 58.23 and Trinidad and Tobago’s Tannon Niemeyer at 57.90.

For Curaçao, Curiel turned in one of the day’s strongest performances by finishing just outside the medals, while Bonevacia added a top-six result in a field highlighted by one of the biggest throws of the opening day.
