Albies matches career-best hitting streak as Braves beat Rockies

DENVER (DA) — Ozzie Albies matched the longest hitting streak of his career today, collecting two hits and scoring three runs as the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 11-6.

The Curaçao second baseman went 2 for 3 with an RBI, two walks and no strikeouts. His two-hit game extended his hitting streak to 15 games, matching the career-best run he recorded from April 7 to May 3, 2024.

Albies entered the game with a 14-game streak dating to April 18, a span in which he had batted .407 with 22 hits, 11 runs, seven doubles, three home runs, 12 RBIs and five walks. He added two more hits against Colorado, raising his season total from 43 to 45.

Atlanta finished with 14 hits and scored in five different innings. The Braves took control early with three runs in the second, added three more in the fifth and scored three in the ninth to close out the win.

Heim drove in five runs for Atlanta, while Mateo drove in two. Albies, Baldwin, Olson, Riley, White, Heim, Mateo and Yastrzemski each had at least one hit for the Braves.

Albies has been especially effective batting right-handed this season. He entered the game hitting .382/.386/.673 against left-handed pitchers, with his average against lefties ranking among the best in baseball. Colorado started left-hander Kyle Freeland, who took the loss after Atlanta’s offense built an early lead.

The Braves improved to 25-10 with the victory, while the Rockies fell to 14-21.
