ACCRA (DA) — Curaçao boxer Jursly “The Gorilla” Susana Vargas scored another first-round knockout Friday, stopping Ghana’s Isaac Dowuona at Bukom Boxing Arena for his second knockout victory in two weeks.
Vargas, 21, was fighting in his first scheduled eight-round bout in the lightweight division and quickly took control. He knocked Dowuona down three times in the opening round, and the Ghanaian fighter was unable to recover after the third knockdown.
The win came just two weeks after Vargas stopped Mexican boxer Jonathan Chamona Aguilar in the first round on March 28 in Rosarito, Mexico.
Vargas, who is part of Mayweather Promotions, improved his professional record to 9-0 with eight knockouts and continued his rise in the lightweight division.
Dowuona, 36, fell to 11-7 with nine knockouts. The loss was his third straight defeat by knockout.
