ZEIST (DA) — AZ teammates Ro-Zangelo Daal and Elijah Dijkstra have been selected for the Netherlands Under-21 squad that will face Denmark for a place at the 2027 European Championship.
Both players have Curaçao roots and have previously been approached about representing its national team. Their latest selections keep them in the Dutch youth setup for the decisive stage of qualifying.
Daal has maintained his ambition to reach the Netherlands senior team despite Curaçao’s interest. Dijkstra also said in September that he wanted to concentrate on his opportunities with the Netherlands before deciding on a possible international switch.
Coach Michael Reiziger’s side opens the two-leg playoff Nov. 13 at Vejle Stadion in Denmark. The return match follows Nov. 17 at Yanmar Hanasaka Stadion in Almere. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. local time.
The winner will qualify for the 16-team tournament co-hosted by Albania and Serbia. Eight countries are contesting four playoff ties for the final four places.
