Tigers expected to decline Kenley Jansen’s $12 million option

DETROIT (DA) — The Detroit Tigers are expected to decline Curaçao-born closer Kenley Jansen’s $12 million club option for 2027 and pay him a $2 million buyout, according to reports.

The club has until Monday, Nov. 2, to decide. The anticipated buyout remains a reported expectation rather than an officially announced move.

Jansen signed a one-year contract that guaranteed $11 million, consisting of a $9 million salary for 2026 and the $2 million buyout if Detroit declined the option.

He recorded 22 saves and a 3.20 ERA in 45 innings this season, but also blew 6 save chances and allowed 7 home runs.

Detroit is also expected to exercise pitcher Drew Anderson’s $10 million option for 2027, according to reports.

Jansen, 39, finished the season with 498 career saves. He needs 2 more to join Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman as the only pitchers to reach 500.
