Deveron Fonville forced out of NEC lineup by warmup injury

NIJMEGEN (DA) — Curaçao international Deveron Fonville suffered an injury during NEC’s warmup and withdrew from the starting lineup, leaving his availability for the club’s next match unclear.

Coach Dick Schreuder could not yet say whether Fonville would be fit to face Omonia Nicosia on Thursday, according to reports in the Netherlands.

The setback follows Fonville’s recall to Curaçao’s squad for the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals against Panama. He was among the returning players named by coach Dick Advocaat.

NEC confirmed that Kevin Kers would replace Fonville. Kers started on the right wing, with Tobias Storm moving into defense alongside Perr Schuurs and Ahmetcan Kaplan as Schreuder adjusted his lineup.
