BITLIS (DA) — Curaçao international Joshua Brenet made his first competitive appearance of the season for Kayserispor on Thursday, starting in a 4–1 defeat at Bitlis 1916 that eliminated the club from the Ziraat Türkiye Kupası.
Brenet was included in a starting lineup made up largely of young players for the third-round match at Eren Stadium. The appearance ended his wait for club playing time after receiving no league minutes this season.
The 32-year-old had been an unused substitute against Esenler Erokspor and in October league matches against Antalyaspor and Batman Petrolspor. His cup selection provided a return to action after those appearances on the bench.
Bitlis took a 2–0 lead into halftime and extended its advantage after the break. A Mert Denizli own goal gave Kayserispor its only reply before the hosts added a fourth.
Brenet’s involvement came after uncertainty over his future before the season. According to reports in Turkey, Kayserispor had asked him to find another club, but he remained with the team.
The defender joined Kayserispor from Livingston in February and made 11 league appearances last season, recording 2 assists. His contract runs through June 30, 2027.
