WILLEMSTAD (DA) — Daijiro Chirino, the Almería defender with Curaçaoan roots, has also been linked to a possible future with Indonesia’s national team, according to reports in Indonesia.
The 24-year-old has been mentioned as a potential option on the right side of Indonesia’s defense. Reports trace his Indonesian ancestry to his mother’s family in Maluku, but have not established that he has agreed to represent the country or entered a naturalization process.
Chirino’s name had already surfaced in March among players linked to Indonesia’s recruitment program. At the time, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) confirmed it was processing new naturalization cases but did not identify the players involved. That announcement did not confirm Chirino was among them.
His connection to Curaçao also predates the latest Indonesian coverage. Chirino was included in Dick Advocaat’s preliminary squad for World Cup qualifying in 2024.
Born in Zwolle, Netherlands, Chirino developed at PEC Zwolle before moving to Spain with Castellón in 2023. He helped Castellón earn promotion to the second division and joined Almería in 2025 on a contract through June 2030. Almería lists him as a central defender who can also play at right back.
