Shuryjano Cornecion joins PSV’s Champions League trip to Leipzig after debut

LEIPZIG (DA) — Days after making his first-team debut, Shuryjano Cornecion has traveled with PSV’s 22-player squad to Germany for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match against RB Leipzig.

The teams meet Oct. 13 at Red Bull Arena, with kickoff set for 9 p.m. local time. It is PSV’s second match of the competition’s league phase and the first meeting between the clubs.

Cornecion made his competitive debut Friday, entering in the 83rd minute of PSV’s 2-0 Eredivisie victory over Heerenveen. The midfielder, who has represented Curaçao at under-20 level, had previously appeared for the first team in preseason friendlies.

His inclusion in the traveling squad keeps him with the senior team for its next European assignment, though it does not guarantee playing time.

PSV is seeking its first Champions League win of the season after opening with a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk. Leipzig lost its opener 4-1 to Como.

Cornecion’s first-team debut followed his introduction to professional football with Jong PSV earlier this year. He has made 13 appearances in the Dutch second division, scoring twice, and has also played in the UEFA Youth League.
