Shuryjano Cornecion makes PSV debut at 18

EINDHOVEN (DA) — Curaçao under-20 midfielder Shuryjano Cornecion made his first-team debut for PSV on Friday, coming off the bench seven minutes from the end at Philips Stadion.

Coach Peter Bosz sent the 18-year-old on for Mauro Júnior. Cornecion said he learned he would enter only when Bosz told him around the 80th minute. He remained calm but was eager to make the most of the opportunity.

He had a chance to mark his debut with a goal, but slipped while shooting from the edge of the penalty area and sent his effort wide. Despite the slip, Cornecion felt he should have scored or at least put the shot on target.

The appearance fulfilled a dream for the midfielder, who joined PSV’s academy in 2018. He said the move from the club’s De Herdgang training complex to playing at Philips Stadion was a major step, earned through hard work.

Born in Oisterwijk, Cornecion has played 13 matches for Jong PSV in the Dutch second division. He previously represented the Netherlands at youth level and now plays for Curaçao’s under-20 team.

Bosz welcomed the debut and praised Cornecion’s ability. The coach declined to compare him with other players, saying the midfielder should develop his own qualities and become someone future players are compared with.
