VOLUNTARI (DA) — Curaçao international Godfried Roemeratoe has signed with FC Voluntari in Romania’s first division, ending his spell without a club after leaving RKC Waalwijk this summer.
Voluntari announced Friday that the 27-year-old midfielder has joined for the rest of the season. Roemeratoe had decided against renewing his RKC contract before representing the Blue Wave at the 2026 World Cup.
Roemeratoe is not part of head coach Dick Advocaat’s current Curaçao squad, which is competing in League A of the CONCACAF Nations League.
Voluntari competes in the Romanian Superliga, the country’s highest tier. The newly promoted team sits 15th in the 16-club competition with 8 points from 10 matches.
Its next match is away to Corvinul Hunedoara on Friday, Oct. 9, offering Roemeratoe a potential opportunity to make his debut.
Roemeratoe made his only appearance at this summer’s World Cup in Curaçao’s 0-0 draw with Ecuador. Voluntari said he has 29 appearances and 1 goal for the national team, which he has represented since 2023.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Roemeratoe can also play elsewhere in central midfield or at right back, the club said.
He developed through FC Twente’s academy and helped the team earn promotion to the Eredivisie. His career also includes a loan spell at Willem II and a stint with Israel’s Hapoel Tel Aviv before joining RKC in 2023, where he made more than 80 appearances.
