WILLEMSTAD (DA) — Nigel Thomas will not join the Curaçao men’s national team at this stage of the CONCACAF Nations League window, a Curaçao Football Federation (FFK) representative confirmed to Deporte Awe on Sunday, although the technical staff has not ruled out bringing him in later.
Thomas remains an option for the matches against Trinidad and Tobago should Dick Advocaat and his staff determine that he is needed.
The ADO Den Haag attacker is still dealing with the shoulder injury he suffered against SC Cambuur on Sept. 19. Thomas also recently became a father.
His absence represents a change from the initial plan. Advocaat had previously said Thomas would join the squad, noting that the attacker was eager to come and that the coaching staff wanted an opportunity to evaluate him closely after his regular playing time with ADO Den Haag.
Thomas was injured during ADO’s 1-1 draw against Cambuur, going down following a tackle in the first half before being taken off on a stretcher.
For now, he will remain away from the Blue Wave, but the technical staff is keeping the possibility of a later call-up open if circumstances require additional options for the Trinidad and Tobago matches.
