THE HAGUE (DA) — ADO Den Haag defender Sekou Sylla said Nigel Thomas’ injury “looked serious” and confirmed that an ambulance arrived at the stadium after the Curaçao winger was taken off on a stretcher against SC Cambuur.
His account supports Deporte Awe’s earlier report that an ambulance was called to WerkTalent Stadion. Sylla said players were not allowed into the room where Thomas had initially been taken.
“We heard something about a dislocated shoulder, but it could also be more serious,” Sylla said.
The nature and severity of the injury remain unconfirmed. Thomas’ availability for the Curaçao men’s national team’s upcoming CONCACAF Nations League matches is also unresolved, with no withdrawal announced.
Thomas landed awkwardly following a tackle by Cambuur’s Devid Bouah before halftime and appeared to hurt his upper arm or shoulder. He could not continue and was replaced by Daryl van Mieghem.
ADO coach Robin Peter had no further information about the injury after the match. It remains unconfirmed whether Thomas was taken to a hospital.
Thomas was selected by Dick Advocaat for the Nations League window. If he is ruled out, it remains unclear whether Advocaat will call up a replacement and whom he would select.
Advocaat and a player are scheduled to speak at a press conference Monday, Sept. 21, at 3:30 p.m. at the Corendon Hotel. The event could provide more clarity about Thomas’ availability and any squad changes before Curaçao faces Costa Rica on Sept. 24.
ADO drew 1-1 with Cambuur, with substitute Donát Bárány scoring the 75th-minute equalizer after Fabian Kvam had put the visitors ahead.
