ROTTERDAM (DA) — Unbeaten lightweight Jursly “The Gorilla” Vargas and heavyweight Jeremy “Tula” Mercera will represent Curaçao on separate cards during Battle of the Benelux I & II on Sept. 19 at Topsportcentrum Rotterdam.
Vargas will face Aruba’s Israel Nunes de Souza in an eight-round bout during Battle of the Benelux II. Vargas enters the all-Caribbean matchup with a 9-0 professional record and eight knockouts, while Nunes de Souza is 7-0 with six knockouts.
Mercera will make his professional debut against Francis Nouvi in a four-round heavyweight contest on the Battle of the Benelux I card. Nouvi has an 0-1 record.
Boxing Gladiators has divided the event into two complete professional boxing shows instead of presenting a traditional undercard followed by a main card.
Battle of the Benelux I will air exclusively through AD and conclude with a heavyweight bout between Belgium’s Roger Osei Bonsu and Gökhan Gedik.
After a short intermission, Battle of the Benelux II will stream live exclusively on Videoland. Its main event will feature unbeaten fighters Elaige Camara and Belgium’s Michiel Partoens competing for the Benelux cruiserweight title.
The second card also includes Tony “White Diamond” Jas against Shahír Afridi in an eight-round super welterweight bout. Gerald “The Magician” Holzken and Dave Roelvink are scheduled for four-round contests against opponents still to be announced.
Boxing Gladiators said the quality of the lineup prompted organizers to create two full shows, giving the fighters on each card a larger platform while allowing spectators to attend both with one ticket.
