PORT OF SPAIN (DA) — Ruensly Leuteria scored 2 goals and Curaçao champion CVV Inter Willemstad advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 CFU Club Shield with a 5-2 victory over St. John’s Sports Club on Sunday at Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Inter Willemstad scored 4 times in the opening 39 minutes to take control of the knockout match before adding another goal after halftime.
Leuteria opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a misplaced pass before beating goalkeeper Shaquille Charles with a right-footed shot.
Davidson Rosa doubled the lead five minutes later, finishing a pass from Jurensley Martina into an empty net.
St. John’s responded in the 28th minute through Sherwin Joseph, but Leuteria restored Inter Willemstad’s two-goal advantage five minutes later with his second goal of the match.
Martina made it 4-1 in the 39th minute after reacting to Rosa’s initial attempt.
St. John’s was reduced to 10 players in the second half when Kimron Marshall received a red card. Inter Willemstad capitalized on the numerical advantage in the 69th minute, when substitute Johan Petronilla Lopez converted from close range after attempts by Leuteria and Quinton Christina were blocked.
Dwight Joseph scored the final goal for St. John’s during second-half stoppage time.
Inter Willemstad will continue its campaign in the quarterfinals of the regional club competition.
