Ozzie Albies elected NL All-Star starter for first time

NEW YORK (DA) — Ozzie Albies will start at second base for the National League in the 2026 Major League Baseball All-Star Game after earning the first fan election of his career.

The Atlanta Braves second baseman, a native of Curaçao, was named to the NL starting lineup Saturday when Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the 96th Midsummer Classic. The game will be played July 14 in Philadelphia.

Albies received 60% of the vote in Phase 2 of National League balloting at second base, finishing ahead of Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott, who received 40%.

It is the fourth All-Star selection of Albies’ career and his first as a fan-elected starter. He becomes the third Atlanta second baseman to earn a fan election, joining Marcus Giles in 2003 and Dan Uggla in 2012.

Albies entered the announcement batting .273 with 14 home runs, 49 RBIs, 15 doubles, 55 runs, 1 stolen base and a .767 OPS.

He is the only player from Curaçao listed among the 2026 All-Star rosters. MLB said the full rosters include 22 internationally born players, representing 33.8% of the All-Stars.

Albies is part of a strong Braves presence in Philadelphia. Atlanta will send five players to the All-Star Game, tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers and host Phillies for the most in the majors.

The Braves also have catcher Drake Baldwin in the NL starting lineup. First baseman Matt Olson, starting pitcher Chris Sale and reliever Raisel Iglesias were added through player balloting.

The rest of the NL starting lineup includes Baldwin at catcher, Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers at first base, Max Muncy of the Dodgers at third base, CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals at shortstop, Brandon Marsh of the Phillies, Juan Soto of the New York Mets and Andy Pages of the Dodgers in the outfield, and Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers at designated hitter.

Ohtani led all major league players in Phase 1 of fan balloting and received an automatic starting assignment at designated hitter.

The All-Star Game will be televised by FOX Sports in the United States, with FOX Deportes carrying Spanish-language coverage.
