ATLANTA (DA) — Ozzie Albies gave the Atlanta Braves the lead with a solo home run in the third inning Friday night, helping Atlanta beat the New York Mets 5-3 at Truist Park.
Albies’ homer, his 14th of the season, came off Christian Scott with one out in the third and put Atlanta ahead 3-2. The switch-hitting second baseman drove the ball 386 feet, with a 102.1 mph exit velocity and a 35-degree launch angle.
The home run was Albies’ eighth go-ahead homer of the season, tying him with Matt Olson and six others for the most in the National League.
Albies also extended his hitting streak against the Mets at Truist Park to 21 games, a run dating to June 29, 2021. During that stretch, he is batting .375, going 31-for-85, with a 1.124 OPS and 7 home runs against New York at home.
Atlanta used the long ball throughout the night. Michael Harris II hit a two-run homer in the second, Albies followed in the third, and Olson added solo shots in the fifth and eighth innings.
Juan Soto homered for the Mets in the third inning, but New York could not overcome Atlanta’s four-homer night. The Mets finished with 10 hits and left 10 runners on base.
Grant Holmes earned the win for Atlanta, improving to 5-4 with a 3.83 ERA. Scott took the loss for New York, falling to 2-1 with a 3.49 ERA. Raisel Iglesias recorded his 17th save.
The game opened a four-game wraparound series between the Braves and Mets. Attendance was 39,138, marking Atlanta’s 15th sellout of the season.
