Rafaela stays hot with 17th multi-hit game in Red Sox loss to Blue Jays

BOSTON (DA) — Ceddanne Rafaela singled and doubled Tuesday night, recording his 17th multi-hit game of the season in the Boston Red Sox’s 6-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

Rafaela went 2-for-5 with a double, giving him 3 multi-hit games in his last 4. Since April 25, the Curaçao outfielder is hitting .309 with a .352 on-base percentage, .515 slugging percentage and .867 OPS over 42 games.

During that stretch, Rafaela is 51-for-165 with 19 runs, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 24 RBIs, 9 walks, 1 hit by pitch and 7 stolen bases.

Toronto took control early and held Boston to 1 run on 8 hits. The Blue Jays scored 3 runs in the first 4 innings, added 2 more in the fifth and another in the eighth.

Jarren Duran provided Boston’s only run with a solo home run in the eighth inning. Duran finished 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI, extending his hitting streak to 6 games.

The loss dropped Boston to 29-41. Payton Tolle took the loss after allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and striking out 6 over 5 innings.

Rafaela’s offense continued a strong run at the plate, while his defensive value remains among the best at his position. He ranks third among major league center fielders with 11 defensive runs saved, behind Pete Crow-Armstrong and Andy Pages, who are tied with 14.

Since the start of 2024, Rafaela leads MLB center fielders with 43 defensive runs saved and ranks second among all outfielders in that span, behind teammate Wilyer Abreu.
