ATLANTA (DA) — Chadwick Tromp recorded the first walk-off RBI of his major league career Friday night, driving in the winning run with an 11th-inning single as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals 5-4 at Truist Park.
Tromp finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored, delivering Atlanta’s first walk-off hit by a catcher since Drake Baldwin did it against Cincinnati on May 8, 2025.
The Braves trailed 2-0 before scoring twice in the seventh inning to tie the game. Washington moved back in front with two runs in the top of the 10th, but Atlanta answered with two in the bottom half before Tromp ended the game in the 11th.
Washington scored its first two runs on solo home runs. Curtis Mead hit his fifth homer of the season off Bryce Elder in the sixth inning, and CJ Abrams connected for his 11th off José Suarez in the eighth.
Atlanta finished with 11 hits despite not hitting a home run. Mauricio Dubón went 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Austin Riley also collected three hits. Ha-Seong Kim and Dominic Smith each drove in one run.
Ozzie Albies went 0-for-4 with a walk for the Braves.
Tyler Kinley earned the win, improving to 4-2 with a 3.74 ERA. Paxton Schultz took the loss for Washington, falling to 0-2 with a 5.30 ERA.
Tromp entered the game with two hits in four at-bats on Atlanta’s current road trip and had appeared in 24 games for Triple-A Gwinnett this season, batting .169 with 12 RBIs. He also played four games for Team Netherlands in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
The game opened a three-game weekend series between the Braves and Nationals and marked the fifth of 13 scheduled meetings between the teams this season. Atlanta has now won four of its first five games against Washington in 2026.
