WILLEMSTAD (DA) — Deporte Awe can independently confirm that Curaçao will hold part of its World Cup preparation at S.J.C. in Noordwijk, Netherlands, before playing friendlies against Scotland and Aruba.
The national team will train at S.J.C.’s complex on Lageweg under the technical staff led by Dick Advocaat.
It will not be the first time Advocaat has brought a World Cup-bound team to S.J.C. In 1994, his Netherlands squad trained at the Noordwijk club and played a send-off match there before traveling to the World Cup in the United States. Now, 32 years later, Advocaat is scheduled to return to Lageweg with Curaçao as the island prepares for its first World Cup.
Curaçao opens its World Cup campaign Sunday, June 14, against Germany in Houston. The team also will face Ecuador and Ivory Coast in the group stage.
Before the tournament, Curaçao will play Scotland on Saturday, May 30, at Hampden Park in Glasgow. A send-off match against Aruba will follow June 6 in Curaçao.
Curaçao’s training schedule at S.J.C. begins Monday, May 25, with a session from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The cafeteria will open at 5 p.m., and the public will have free access to watch the team.
The team also is scheduled to train May 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.; May 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; May 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.; and June 2 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The sports park will remain open on the other training days, though the cafeteria will be closed.
