Jeremy Antonisse’s Panama availability uncertain after ankle injury

ATHENS (DA) — Curaçao international Jeremy Antonisse suffered an ankle injury while playing for Kifisia against Olympiacos on Saturday, leaving his availability for the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal against Panama uncertain.

Antonisse was taken to a hospital after suffering what reports in Greece described as a severe ankle sprain. Tests were needed to determine whether he had also sustained a fracture. No fracture diagnosis or recovery timetable has been confirmed.

The injury occurred in the 39th minute during a challenge for the ball with Jota Silva at Leoforos stadium. Antonisse needed assistance leaving the field, and Gerson Sousa replaced him in the 42nd minute.

Coach Dick Advocaat had included Antonisse in the 23-player squad announced Friday by the Curaçao Football Federation (FFK), before the injury.

Curaçao faces Panama on Nov. 12 and 15, with a place in the Nations League Finals and qualification for the Gold Cup at stake.
