Ozzie Albies stays with Braves as club exercises $7 million option

ATLANTA (DA) — The Atlanta Braves exercised their $7 million club option on Curaçao second baseman Ozzie Albies on Thursday, keeping him under contract for the 2027 season.

Albies, 29, played in all 162 regular-season games in 2026, batting .237 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs and 85 runs scored. He also led the major leagues with 158 appearances at second base.

The decision activates the second and final club option included in the seven-year, $35 million extension Albies signed in 2019. His current contract runs through the 2027 season, after which he would be eligible for free agency.

Albies completed his 10th season with Atlanta and earned his fourth All-Star selection this year. He turns 30 in January.

The Braves also exercised their $17 million option on outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. for 2027. Atlanta holds another option worth the same amount on Acuña for 2028.
