Nigel Thomas scores twice off bench in ADO Den Haag defeat

THE HAGUE (DA) — Nigel Thomas scored twice after coming on as a substitute Saturday, but ADO Den Haag could not salvage a point in a 3-2 home defeat to sc Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.

Thomas entered for Šin in the 55th minute with ADO trailing 2-0 at the WerkTalent Stadion. He scored in the 57th and 72nd minutes, each time bringing the hosts within a goal.

His first came from a rebound after goalkeeper Klaverboer saved a shot by fellow substitute Van Mieghem. Thomas met the loose ball with a volley to cut the deficit to 2-1.

He also helped create a chance for Hawkins as ADO pursued an equalizer, but Heerenveen extended its lead in the 66th minute. Trenskow finished from Rivera’s delivery for his second goal of the match.

Thomas answered again six minutes later. Kilo found Rottier on the right, and Thomas converted his cross from close range to make it 3-2. ADO pressed for a third goal but could not draw level.

Heerenveen had built its initial advantage through Trenskow’s 24th-minute opener and Meerveld’s long-range strike in the 52nd.

The defeat followed ADO’s victory over defending champion PSV a week earlier, its first league win of the season.
