Jurickson Profar begins training with Tiburones, awaits debut date

CARACAS (DA) — Curaçao-born major leaguer Jurickson Profar has joined Tiburones de La Guaira’s workouts, but the club has not set a date for his debut in the 2026-27 Venezuelan winter baseball season.

Tiburones announced his arrival Saturday afternoon after Profar trained with his teammates earlier in the day.

La Guaira entered its weekend series against Caribes de Anzoátegui with a 4-6 record and two consecutive losses. The teams were scheduled to meet Saturday and Sunday at Estadio Universitario in Caracas, with Caribes carrying a 7-3 record.

Profar’s arrival gives Tiburones an experienced major league player, although his participation in the series had not been confirmed.

The club also changed its pitching staff ahead of the two games, adding Brander Guevara, Caleb Freeman and Johan Moreno to the active roster. Fellow pitchers Jhon Romero, Luis Patiño and Anthony Escobar were removed.
