BOCA CHICA (DA) — Curaçao’s under-18 baseball team will begin its bid for a World Cup berth against the Dominican Republic at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in the U18 Pan American Championship.

The 20-player squad, managed by Ghionelo Jansen, continues Group A play against the United States at noon Friday, Oct. 23, before facing Brazil at noon Saturday, Oct. 24.

All three games are scheduled for Stadium 1 at the IPL Academy in Boca Chica. Start times are local.

Four places in next year’s U18 World Cup are available at the championship, which runs Oct. 22-29, the Pan American Baseball Confederation announced.

Colombia’s withdrawal leaves 11 teams divided into three groups. Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba and Nicaragua make up Group B, while Puerto Rico, Panama and Canada compete in Group C.

The other opening-day games pair Brazil with the United States, Nicaragua with Mexico, Cuba with Venezuela and Panama with Puerto Rico.

The Super Round is scheduled for Oct. 25-28, followed by the championship and bronze-medal games Thursday, Oct. 29.
