Jordi Paulina scores first goal of season for Fortuna Düsseldorf

DÜSSELDORF (DA) — Jordi Paulina opened his scoring account for the season Saturday, giving Fortuna Düsseldorf an early lead before the club fell 3-1 at home to 1. FC Saarbrücken in Germany’s third division.

Named in the starting lineup following Fortuna’s 2-1 victory at Preußen Münster, Paulina needed just 10 minutes to score. He ran onto a through ball from Hendrix and finished after movement on the left created an opening in the visiting defense.

Paulina partnered Eric Hottmann up front as Fortuna changed both starting strikers. The pair replaced Fabian Schleusener and Anas Slimani.

Paulina played until the 74th minute, leaving with Fortuna trailing 2-1. Saarbrücken had equalized through Kai Brünker in the 13th minute before Owusu put the visitors ahead in the 50th. Alexander Staff added the final goal in the 90th.

Fortuna sits ninth with 14 points from 10 matches and next visits Hansa Rostock on Saturday, Oct. 24.
