Curaçao target Demiane Agustien in Indonesia’s sights as lawyers get involved

JAKARTA (DA) — Indonesia’s soccer federation is reportedly working on a potential naturalization pathway for Arsenal midfielder Demiane Agustien, whom Dick Advocaat has already approached about representing Curaçao.

A special adviser to Indonesia’s law minister said Tuesday that the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) legal team was working on Agustien’s case. No completed administrative steps or timetable were disclosed, and the comments did not confirm that the player had committed to Indonesia.

As Deporte Awe reported Sept. 21, Advocaat identified Agustien among several players contacted about joining the Blue Wave. Ro-Zangelo Daal and Elijah Dijkstra were also named.

Advocaat said the players preferred to wait before committing while keeping their options with the Netherlands open.

Agustien, 19, represented Curaçao at under-17 level before playing for the Netherlands under-18 and under-19 teams. His father, Kemy Agustien, is a former Curaçao international.

His Indonesian ancestry comes through his mother’s family. Agustien has previously said his maternal grandmother and great-grandmother were born in Jakarta.

The attacking midfielder joined Arsenal from Derby County in July 2025. Arsenal credited him with five goals in 24 academy appearances during his first season and included him in its first-team preseason preparations this summer.
