WILLEMSTAD (DA) — A recycling pilot organized by the Curaçao Football Federation (FFK) and Maduro & Curiel’s Bank (MCB) collected 417 kilograms of recyclable material during Curaçao’s two recent home CONCACAF Nations League matches, according to FFK.
The collection covered the Sept. 27 match against Nicaragua and the Oct. 1 match against Trinidad & Tobago. It included 195 kilograms of plastic, 147 kilograms of glass and 75 kilograms of aluminum.
Statera Earth carried out the recycling program, handling collection, sorting and documentation. The work took place behind the scenes, separating recyclable material from the stadium’s general waste.
Nearly 15,000 spectators attended the two matches combined, according to FFK. The federation described the limited pilot as a way to gain experience, improve procedures and establish measurable results before developing a broader program.
FFK, MCB and Statera Earth are already discussing the next steps ahead of the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals in November. Those discussions include expanding the initiative and finding ways for spectators to participate directly in recycling and waste separation.
FFK interim President Fabi Constansia said the federation aims to gradually incorporate sustainability into its matches and events over the coming years. She described the pilot’s results as a starting point for that work.
