Ozzie Albies homers as Braves advance to Division Series

ATLANTA (DA) — Curaçao second baseman Ozzie Albies hit a 2-run home run as the Atlanta Braves eliminated the Philadelphia Phillies with a 6-2 victory Thursday in Game 3 of their National League wild-card series at Truist Park.

Atlanta won the series 2-1 to advance to the National League Division Series.

Albies connected off Zack Wheeler in the fourth inning with 1 out and a runner aboard. His homer extended the Braves’ lead after Michael Harris II hit a 3-run shot off Aaron Nola in the first.

Albies finished 1-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBIs. He is batting .333 this postseason with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Matt Olson added a solo homer in the seventh, giving Atlanta all 6 of its runs on home runs. Harris went 3-for-3 with a walk, accounting for half of the Braves’ 6 hits.

Philadelphia also collected 6 hits but went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Trea Turner drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and Alec Bohm added an RBI in the eighth.

Grant Holmes earned the victory after allowing 1 run over 2 innings. Starter Ray Kerr held Philadelphia scoreless through 3⅓ innings, and Chris Sale recorded the final 4 outs, striking out 3 without allowing a run.

Nola took the loss after surrendering 3 runs in 1⅔ innings.

Albies played all 162 regular-season games, becoming the second primary second baseman in Braves history to do so, joining Félix Millán in 1969. He finished with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs and 85 runs scored.
