WILLEMSTAD (DA) — Dick Advocaat wants his eventual successor as Curaçao head coach to come from the island when his tenure with the Blue Wave ends.
The 78-year-old, who recently extended his contract through July 2027, believes turning the national team over to someone from Curaçao would be a positive step.
Advocaat also explained that how he feels physically was central to his decision to continue. He said circumstances have improved since his earlier decision to step away and that he would not have returned if he had not felt well enough to keep coaching.
Before the 2026 World Cup, Advocaat had announced his departure from the position. He ultimately returned and led Curaçao at the tournament.
His latest extension keeps him in charge through July 2027, giving the Curaçao Football Federation (FFK) time to consider who could eventually succeed him.
Advocaat has already made his preference clear for that transition: when his tenure ends, he hopes the position will go to someone from Curaçao.
