ZEIST (DA) — Lutsharel Geertruida and brothers Jurriën and Quinten Timber have been selected for Xavi Hernández’s first matches as Netherlands coach as the Dutch prepare to open their UEFA Nations League campaign.
Jorrel Hato and Justin Kluivert also made the 26-player squad. All five have family roots in Curaçao and will report in Zeist on Monday, Sept. 21.
Geertruida joins from PSV, while Jurriën Timber plays for Arsenal and his twin brother Quinten represents Crystal Palace. Hato and Kluivert play for Chelsea and Bournemouth, respectively.
The Netherlands faces Germany at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam on Sept. 24, marking Xavi’s first match in charge since his appointment in August.
The selection includes two newcomers to the senior squad: PSV’s Ruben van Bommel and Feyenoord’s Gjivai Zechiël.
Xavi said the four-match schedule influenced his decision to select 26 players, giving him flexibility while allowing him to assess the group during their first extended period working together.
Germany, Serbia and Greece join the Netherlands in League A Group 2. After hosting Germany, the Dutch visit Serbia in Belgrade on Sept. 27 and Greece in Thessaloniki on Oct. 1.
They close the international window against Serbia in Eindhoven on Oct. 4.
