WILLEMSTAD (DA) — Curaçao defender Deveron Fonville has been named to Voetbal International’s Eredivisie Team of the Week after helping NEC defeat Willem II in the second round of the season.
Fonville received a 7.0 rating and was selected in the four-man defense. NEC teammate Clement Bischoff also made the lineup following the club’s convincing victory ahead of its Champions League playoff tie against Bodø/Glimt.
AZ, FC Groningen and Sparta Rotterdam joined NEC as the four clubs with two representatives apiece. AZ supplied Peer Koopmeiners and Weslley Patati, while Groningen’s selections were Player of the Week Thom van Bergen and Brynjólfur Willumsson. Marvin Young and Lushendry Martes represented Sparta.
There was no place for a player from the traditional top three. PSV struggled in a 2-1 victory over Excelsior, while Feyenoord and Ajax were held to 2-2 draws by Go Ahead Eagles and SC Heerenveen, respectively.
Fortuna Sittard goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst, FC Twente midfielder Daouda Weidman and Heerenveen defender Vasilios Zagaritis completed the lineup.
