Curaçao U20 captain Cornecion fires Jong PSV to last-minute victory

EINDHOVEN (DA) — Curaçao youth international Shuryjano Cornecion scored in the final minute to give Jong PSV a 3-2 victory over FC Volendam in its Keuken Kampioen Divisie season opener Monday.

Cornecion converted a cross from the right with the match tied at 2-2, completing Jong PSV’s comeback and securing all 3 points at De Herdgang.

The 18-year-old midfielder captained Curaçao during the 2026 CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Qualifiers. He scored twice in a 6-0 victory over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at Stadion Rignaal “Jean” Francisca in Willemstad in February.

Fabio Kluit opened the scoring for Jong PSV after 20 minutes before Henk Veerman headed Nick Doodeman’s free kick past the goalkeeper to equalize. Veerman struck again shortly after the hour mark, turning in a delivery from Mohammed Belfqih for a 2-1 Volendam lead.

Joël van den Berg brought Jong PSV level from a rebound with 10 minutes remaining, setting up Cornecion’s decisive finish.

Cornecion joined the PSV Academy at the U11 level in 2018. He signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2025 after recording eight goals and seven assists in 28 appearances for PSV U17. PSV describes him as a right-footed, versatile midfielder.
