WILLEMSTAD (DA) — Livano Comenencia’s match-worn and signed jersey from Curaçao’s World Cup match against Germany sold for US$20,638, with the winning bid coming from a supporter in Curaçao, according to information obtained by Deporte Awe.
The jersey carries significance far beyond the auction price.
Comenencia scored Curaçao’s first goal in FIFA World Cup history in the 21st minute against Germany, briefly tying the match at 1-1 before Germany pulled away for a 7-1 victory.
For Curaçao, the goal became one of the defining images of the country’s World Cup debut. It came against one of world football’s most decorated nations and gave the Blue Wave a permanent place in tournament history.
Comenencia’s finish also gave Curaçao something lasting from a difficult opener. The final score showed the challenge of facing Germany on the sport’s biggest stage, but the goal ensured Curaçao’s first World Cup match would be remembered for more than the result.
The 22-year-old right back entered the tournament as one of Curaçao’s important young players. A versatile defender, he had featured prominently in World Cup qualifying, contributing 1 goal and 1 assist, and also played all 3 group-stage matches at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The winning bid added another layer to the moment. Less than a week after Curaçao’s World Cup debut, Comenencia’s match-worn and signed Germany-Curaçao jersey drew a five-figure bid from a supporter in Curaçao.
For a nation making its first appearance on the world stage, the jersey now stands as a piece of Curaçao football history: the jersey worn by the player who scored the country’s first World Cup goal.
