WILLEMSTAD (DA) — Jürgen Locadia will be available for Curaçao at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after receiving a one-match suspension for his red card against Scotland.
The suspension applies only to Curaçao’s friendly against Aruba.
Locadia was sent off in the 38th minute of Scotland’s 4-1 win over Curaçao at Hampden Park after a video assistant referee review. The red card created a question over whether the punishment could affect Curaçao’s World Cup opener, but the disciplinary outcome keeps the sanction limited to the next friendly.
Under the FIFA Disciplinary Code, May 2026 edition, a sending-off automatically brings a suspension from the subsequent match. The code also states that match suspensions linked to a sending-off outside a competition are carried over by match category.
For friendly matches, Article 69 says the suspension is carried over to the representative team’s next friendly match.
For Curaçao, that match is against Aruba.
The decision gives Curaçao clarity on Locadia’s status as the national team continues its preparation for the World Cup. Locadia will miss the Aruba friendly but remains eligible for the tournament.
Curaçao is preparing for the biggest stage in the country’s football history after qualifying for its first FIFA World Cup. The Blue Wave will face Germany, Ecuador and Ivory Coast in Group E.
