Ozzie Albies homers, drives in 3 as Braves beat Blue Jays

ATLANTA (DA) — Ozzie Albies delivered the swing that put the game out of reach Wednesday night, hitting a three-run home run in the seventh inning as the Atlanta Braves beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 at Truist Park.

Albies, the Curaçao second baseman, went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, a double and his 10th home run of the season. His seventh-inning shot came off left-hander Adam Macko with 2 outs and extended Atlanta’s lead to 7-2.

The homer left the bat at 106.6 mph and traveled 393 feet.

Mauricio Dubón also hit a three-run homer for Atlanta, connecting in the third inning off Patrick Corbin to give the Braves control after Toronto took an early lead. Dubón finished with 3 RBIs, while Matt Olson went 3-for-4 and scored twice.

Albies’ 10th homer matched Ketel Marte for the second most among second basemen this season. He also continued his strong production against left-handed pitching, improving to .305 with a .330 on-base percentage and .505 slugging percentage against lefties this season.

The extra-base hits also pushed Albies into a tie with Kyle Schwarber for the second most extra-base hits against left-handed pitching this season with 13, behind Olson’s 15.

Albies extended his hitting streak to 7 games. During that stretch, he is hitting .407 with 11 hits in 27 at-bats, 3 doubles, 2 homers and a 1.174 OPS.

Toronto scored in the first inning before Atlanta answered in the second and took control with 3 runs in the third. The Braves added 3 more in the seventh, while the Blue Jays scored once in the ninth.

Grant Holmes earned the win for Atlanta, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 4. Corbin took the loss after allowing 4 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings.

The Braves improved to 42-20 and remained first in the NL East. Toronto fell to 29-33 and has lost 4 straight games.
