Kenley Jansen exits with right groin issue as Tigers shut out Angels

DETROIT (DA) — Curaçao closer Kenley Jansen left the Detroit Tigers’ 4-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels with a right groin issue after recording two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night.

Jansen exited with a trainer before Brenan Hanifee came on for the final out, completing the shutout and ending Detroit’s season-long seven-game home losing streak.

The 38-year-old right-hander has seven saves this season, along with a 1-3 record and a 4.80 ERA.

The Tigers also lost starter Casey Mize to a right groin issue in the same game. Mize worked four scoreless innings with six strikeouts before leaving after recently returning from the injured list because of a similar injury.

Mize said he felt discomfort in the same area but described it as less severe than the injury he experienced against the Atlanta Braves.

Detroit, now 22-34, has dealt with a series of injuries this season. Tarik Skubal, Justin Verlander, Parker Meadows, Kerry Carpenter, Javier Báez and Gleyber Torres are among the Tigers currently on the injured list.
