ATLANTA (DA) — Ozzie Albies snapped an 0-for-11 skid with three singles Sunday, collecting three of Atlanta’s six hits in the Braves’ 2-1 loss to the Washington Nationals at Truist Park.
The Curaçao infielder finished 3-for-4 and delivered Atlanta’s strongest offensive performance in a game in which the Braves were held scoreless until the ninth inning. Washington scored once in the fifth and once in the eighth before Atlanta pushed across its only run in the final inning.
Two of Albies’ hits came against left-hander Foster Griffin, who earned the win for Washington. Albies is now batting .306/.337/.494, going 26-for-85 against left-handed pitching this season.
Albies owns a .325 career batting average against left-handers, the best among MLB hitters with at least 500 plate appearances against left-handed pitching.
The performance gave Albies nine multi-hit games against left-handed starters this season, second in baseball behind Miami’s Otto Lopez, who has 10. It was also Albies’ 100th such game since joining Atlanta in 2017, tying Jeff Blauser for ninth-most in Braves franchise history. Andruw Jones ranks eighth with 106.
Griffin improved to 6-2 with a 3.63 ERA. Martín Pérez took the loss for Atlanta, falling to 2-3 with a 2.70 ERA, while Orlando Ribalta recorded his second save.
Atlanta and Washington each finished with six hits. The loss closed the teams’ three-game weekend series, with their next meeting scheduled for a four-game series at Truist Park from July 30 through Aug. 2.
