Albies sets career-high hitting streak with homer in Braves loss

SEATTLE (DA) — Ozzie Albies extended his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games today, homering for one of Atlanta’s four solo shots in the Braves’ 5-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

The Curaçao second baseman went 1 for 4 with his eighth home run of the season, an RBI and a run scored. His sixth-inning homer off Logan Gilbert pushed the streak beyond the 15-game run he matched one day earlier and lifted his season total to 46 hits.

Albies’ streak dates to April 18. During the run, he has gone 25 for 61 with 15 runs, seven doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs and seven walks.

Atlanta led 1-0 after Drake Baldwin opened the game with his ninth home run of the season. Albies, Matt Olson and Austin Riley then homered in the sixth inning, giving the Braves a 4-0 lead.

Seattle answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Luke Raley hit a three-run homer off Ritchie, and J.P. Crawford added a two-run homer off Kinley later in the inning to put the Mariners ahead.

Gilbert allowed four runs on six hits over six innings but earned the win. Kinley took the loss after allowing two runs in one inning, and Muñoz recorded his seventh save.

Albies and Baldwin entered the day tied with two others for the most hits in Major League Baseball this season at 45. Both added one hit against Seattle.

The Braves finished with nine hits but went 0 for 3 with runners in scoring position and left six on base. Atlanta fell to 25-11, while Seattle improved to 17-19.
