ATLANTA (DA) — Ozzie Albies extended his hitting streak to 10 games and homered in the eighth inning Tuesday night, helping the Atlanta Braves beat the Detroit Tigers 5-2 at Truist Park.
The Curaçao second baseman hit his sixth home run of the season off Tyler Holton in the eighth, sending a 98.5 mph drive 378 feet. It was his second homer of the year against a left-handed pitcher.
Albies has been one of Atlanta’s hottest hitters since April 18, batting .410 with a .442 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage during the streak.
He is tied with teammate Drake Baldwin for the second-most hits in MLB this season with 36. Albies also is tied for third in the majors with a .356 batting average against left-handed pitchers, going 16-for-45, and tied for fifth with a .578 slugging percentage against lefties.
Atlanta opened the three-game midweek series by continuing its recent dominance over Detroit. The Braves have won nine straight games against the Tigers dating to the 2023 season, the longest active winning streak against Detroit in baseball.
The Braves are 13-3 in their last 16 games against the Tigers dating to 2016 and have won all five series between the clubs in that span.
Martín Pérez earned the win for Atlanta, improving to 1-1 with a 2.22 ERA. Casey Mize took the loss for Detroit, falling to 2-2 with a 2.90 ERA.
