Rafaela sparks Boston rout as Red Sox crush Orioles

BALTIMORE (DA) — Curaçao’s Ceddanne Rafaela went 3 for 5 with two runs, a triple, an RBI and a walk as the Red Sox beat the Orioles 17-1.

Boston finished with 17 runs on 17 hits and broke the game open with 10 runs in the ninth inning. The Red Sox improved to 10-17, while Baltimore fell to 13-14.

Rafaela delivered his first triple of the season and drove in his ninth run. He also had one strikeout and was caught stealing second.

Boston led 3-0 after the second inning, added another run in the fourth and pushed the advantage to 7-0 in the fifth. Baltimore scored its only run in the seventh before the Red Sox turned the game into a blowout in the ninth.

Monasterio hit a grand slam in the ninth and finished with four RBIs. Durbin also homered in the inning and drove in three runs, while Contreras added a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs.

Wong had three RBIs for Boston, and Kiner-Falefa also drove in a run. The Red Sox went 8 for 15 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base.

Crochet earned the win for Boston, moving to 3-3. Rogers took the loss for Baltimore, falling to 2-3.

The Orioles were held to one run on six hits and committed three errors. Mayo doubled for Baltimore, and Taveras drove in the Orioles’ only run.
