PANAMA CITY (DA) — Curaçao opened play at the U17 baseball tournament of the IV South American Youth Games with a 7-2 victory over Argentina on Monday at Estadio Juan Demóstenes Arosemena.
Curaçao broke the game open with two runs in the third inning and kept adding on with one in the fourth, two in the fifth and two more in the sixth. The team finished with eight hits and did not commit an error, while Argentina was limited to four hits.
Nasir El-Ossaïs led the offense, going 2 for 2 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Jeadyon Chirino went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Dwayne Isenia finished 2 for 5.
Jay-dlynn Wiel and Tristan Meulens each drove in a run for Curaçao, and Claeten Sille added another RBI.
On the mound, Jayden Elizabeth struck out six and allowed two hits over three scoreless innings. Qshondrickson Doran earned the win in relief, and Derickson Doran worked two scoreless innings as Curaçao’s pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts.
The standings are Colombia, Curaçao and Panama at 1-0, while Argentina, Brazil and Peru are 0-1.
Curaçao is scheduled to face Brazil on Tuesday.
