Wilson ‘Papa’ Godett Trophy boxing card set for May 30 in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD (DA) — The annual Wilson “Papa” Godett Trophy boxing program will be held Saturday, May 30, starting at 8 p.m. at the former Frente Obrero headquarters on Winston Churchillweg 102, with free admission for the public.

The event honors Wilson “Papa” Godett, one of Curaçao’s standout boxing figures who also became a trade union leader and politician. Godett won the Caribbean title in 1954 and captured the Curaçao middleweight championship in 1955 and 1962 before later working as a referee in Curaçao, Aruba and Jamaica into the 1990s.

The announced bouts include T-Shendrick Held of Boca Boxing Club against Yadiel Martis of Supreme Boxing Centre in the under-50 kg division.

In the 60-65 kg class, Jundrick Jansen of Kapap Center is set to face Ozel Mack of Baas Sports, Odel Jacoisti Fortuny of AA Boxing will meet Manuel Pinheiro of Kapap Center, and Qshently Held of Boca Boxing Club is matched with Dyon Chirino of Baas Sports.

The 70-75 kg division features Maximillian Christiaans of Showtime against Vitorio de Joode of Baas Sports, Jayden Mogen of Boca Boxing Club against Adriel Cleofa of Baas Sports, Mustafa Okan of Kapap Center against Jonathan Trouwloon of Pro-Fit, and Nahif Wilmans of Boca Boxing Club against Frallin Scharbay of Pro-Fit.

In the 75-80 kg class, Dannylson Merced of Boca Boxing Club is scheduled to take on Luuk Bal of Pro-Fit.
