France return to No. 1 as Curaçao slip to 82nd in FIFA rankings

ZURICH (DA) — France climbed back to the top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, while Curaçao dropped one place to No. 82 in the latest update released after 166 men’s internationals and the close of qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA said France rose two spots to reclaim first place for the first time since September 2018 after posting two wins in their most recent friendlies. Spain fell one place to second and Argentina dropped one spot to third.

For Curaçao, the new ranking placed the Caribbean side 82nd in the world on 1,294.65 points. The team fell one place after its most recent result, a 5-1 loss to Australia, which cost it 2.54 points.

The ranking also left Curaçao eighth among Concacaf teams, behind Mexico, the United States, Canada, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras and Jamaica. Haiti followed immediately behind Curaçao at No. 83.

Mexico remained the highest-ranked Concacaf side at No. 15 despite slipping one place, with the United States at No. 16 and Canada at No. 30. Panama stood 33rd, Costa Rica 51st, Honduras 66th and Jamaica 71st.

FIFA said only three of the top 30 teams in the world ranking failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup: Italy, Denmark and Nigeria. Thirty-seven of the 48 qualified teams are ranked inside the top 50.

Among other notable changes, Portugal moved up to fifth and swapped places with Brazil, which dropped to sixth. Türkiye, Côte d’Ivoire, Sweden and Tunisia were the biggest climbers inside the top 50, while Bosnia and Herzegovina jumped six places to 65th.

FIFA said Kosovo, which rose to 78th, reached its highest-ever position in the men’s ranking despite missing out on World Cup qualification.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be published on June 10, 2026.
