Curaçao, Aruba place four players on MLB Opening Day rosters

NEW YORK (DA) — Curaçao placed three players and Aruba one on 2026 Major League Baseball Opening Day rosters and inactive lists, according to figures released Thursday by Major League Baseball.

Curaçao was represented by Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves, Kenley Jansen of the Detroit Tigers and Ceddanne Rafaela of the Boston Red Sox. Aruba’s lone representative was Xander Bogaerts of the San Diego Padres.

Major League Baseball said 247 players born outside the United States were included on Opening Day rosters and inactive lists, accounting for 26.1% of the total pool of 948 players.

The players came from 16 countries and territories outside the 50 U.S. states. The Dominican Republic led all countries and territories with 93 players, followed by Venezuela with 60 and Cuba with 20.

Canada and Japan posted notable totals, with 17 and 14 players, respectively. Puerto Rico also had 14 players, while Mexico had seven and Panama four.

Colombia and South Korea had three players each. The Bahamas, Honduras, Nicaragua, Taiwan and Aruba had one each.

The Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres led the major leagues with 15 internationally born players each, while the Braves also had players from eight different countries and territories, the highest total among all clubs.

Among the 780 players on active 26-man Opening Day rosters, 145 had appeared in at least one game during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
