ALKMAAR (DA) — AZ winger Ro-Zangelo Daal said after Thursday’s 2-1 win over Sparta Prague that his international ambition remains with the Netherlands, despite being eligible to play for Curaçao.
Daal, who set up both goals for Troy Parrott in the Conference League victory, told Ziggo Sport that his current focus is on AZ and finishing the season strongly.
“I’m just focused on AZ and I think that is something for later,” Daal told Ziggo Sport. “I mainly want to finish my season well with AZ. We still have a few very important matches coming up, so I have to focus fully on that.”
The 22-year-old also spoke about the form that helped him make a decisive impact on Thursday.
“It’s mainly in the dribbles and in the combinations,” Daal told Ziggo Sport. “I just feel good on the ball and free in my head. For me, I think that is the most important thing to perform well.”
Asked about the possibility of representing Curaçao, Daal said he follows the team closely but still sees Oranje as his long-term objective.
“Ultimately, it is a bit difficult for me right now. I have absolutely nothing against Curaçao,” Daal told Ziggo Sport. “I watch their matches with a lot of love; I have done that very often. But my ambition is ultimately to play for Oranje.”
Daal previously played for the Netherlands at under-18 level. Through his background, he is also eligible for Curaçao, whose new head coach Fred Rutten could monitor him as part of the national team player pool.
