HooiBooi crushes Colombo in first-round knockout to retain WOW lightweight title

MADRID (DA) — Brian “HooiBooi” Hooi retained his WOW lightweight title with a first-round knockout of Miguel Ángel “Colombo” Lozano in the main event of WOW 27 at Madrid Arena.

Hooi silenced the home crowd with a sharp finish that ended the fight in explosive fashion and secured his first successful title defense.

The bout began cautiously, with both fighters circling and waiting for a clear opening. Lozano worked early kicks, including attacks to the body, and tried to build offense with his hands.

Hooi stayed patient through the opening exchanges and read the challenger’s timing.

The decisive moment came when Lozano threw another kick to the body and tried to follow with a straight right. Hooi slipped the punch and answered with a left hand that dropped Lozano to the canvas.

From there, Hooi closed the fight with three ground-and-pound strikes to force the stoppage.

The victory kept the belt with Hooi and added another emphatic finish to his rise as champion.

“Tonight Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira fight for the ‘BMF’ in Las Vegas,” Hooi said in the post-fight press conference. “Give me a plane and I’m going there, because the real ‘BMF’ is here.”

After the win, Hooi called Umakhan Ibragimov into the cage, where the two faced off as Hooi signaled that he wants a rematch.

Hooi also collected the bonus for best knockout of the night.
